I decided to give Disqus a try. It's been recommended before, and often, but I was just too lazy to bother with the change. Amusing Bunni mentioned it again so I thought hey, worth a try. It lets you reply to specific comments rather than just adding another one at the end of a long list. Might make it easier to follow conversations.
It 'says' it's importing the Blogger comments. There are a hell of a lot of them so it might take a while.
We'll see how this works out. If it's crap I can revert to Blogger. All your comments are still there on my Blogger screen.
Update: That was quick. The order is a bit jumbled but new ones should follow a proper thread pattern.
We'll see how this thing pans out. If you use NoScript you might have to 'allow Disqus.com'. If you block all cookies you'll need to allow disqus.com in the 'exceptions' list. Couple of clicks.

Let's see
Disqus seems to recognise me when I post from home, but logging in from anywhere else can be difficult if not impossible.
And let's try out the 'reply to a specific comment' option as well while I'm here.
Is it any good, I suppose the proof will me in the pudding!
It syncs with Blogger so the comments appear in the Blogger list too. If this disqus thing doesn't work out and I revert to Blogger, all comments should still be there.
I'll have to wait and see if the anons can get in all right.
But replying from an iPhone with auto correct is a fekin pain
Won't allow comments using your Blogger ID, so thus a major pisser for many of us.
I think you'll like it, LI, thanks for the shout-out!
Let me be the first to post a happy photo! (It also posts youtube vids in a pop out box) I'm very happy with it. Ilm sure with your internet skills, you'll figure out how to set up the blocking features and all that.
I don't know if there's an option for allowing Blogger profiles. I've only had this new toy a few minutes ;)
It took a while to load at first, my browser seems to be getting the hang of it now though.
Interesting
One issue - it doesn't like the commenter who likes to put in really long usernames. 150 characters only. Sometimes he just rambles but some of his stuff is good.
works for me.
It's a good vehicle for a rant on the Failygraph.
Hard for me to say since it 'knows' me anyway from ranting on the Teletubbygraph site where they also use Disqus. I'll try logging out and using another profile.
a test
hmmm. only worked with all my Fx extensions disabled. need to dig a bit more
Trying it with Blogger ID now.
that's better
Trying it now using Open ID and my blog as the site.
Now, does it let me comment via OpenID?
Yes, that works...
final confirmation
Seems OK, but no preview option. Had to change my user name to post as prog.
Anyway, while I'm here maybe folks would like to vote on this (last option hopefully....)

Oh God, it's the Torygraph...
Waves ~~~~~ test
Here I am. Or am I?
No problem for me. I signed up on Disqus about 6 months ago, and then forgot my name and password, and then rediscovered them a few weeks ago. This will give me an incentive to remember them.
Does HTML work at all?
oooh it looks shite to me, talk about eyestrain muddled layout, its still not moderated leggy but im sure only the determined will put up with it, and the extra info needed is an extra hurdle and missing options will be a pain so thats good enough for me.
i really cant tackle trolling this...it makes my eyes hurt, and it wont have the same disruption effect either....so im gone
my word is my bond.....go back to old blogger no moderation and i will be back, leave it like this and this is the end.
think on next time leggy....a scary avatar, a scary name and bullshitting with threats and bluffs and a big gob is a magnet to someone like me who can run rings around you......you were punching well above your weight with me.
see ya
Aha!
Or maybe not. How about this?
just trying
can you delete me leggy so i know if it works...lmao
this new look gives me the same feeling as car sickness....it really is a troll repellent
who posted first , who posted last...who the hell knows....is this a wind up
Are you receiving me? Over and out.
I use a Google ID which Blogger encouraged.
thats better leggy....back to game on
i will let the dust settle on this madness...let us know what you have decided
Aha yerself. Looks like it works ok, may try this on the F2C blog.
what the fuck is this muddle....scroll down and it goes bananas, i cant work out the thread layout...load more comments and it gets worse.
it just went back to blogger....im dizzy
have a pop at deleting me leggy and then try and ban my proxy please
You're not on your proxy. You might be mad but you're not stupid. You're on someone's unsecure WiFi.
Testing, testing. 1,2..1,2...
At least he's decided what his name is, now. Until the next time, anyway.
He's gone, and his word is is his bond? We would be so lucky.
cheers leggy...its breachable within seconds , i have written a post below somewhere in the maze which explains the position now.
you can get it to by loading more comments, scrolling up and down, let the browser update and settle down and a couple of clicks and you are there.
good luck...i reckon i will be back cos this is a flop but it will keep me aw
Well, that was ok, though I could do with removing the '41'. How did that get there?
have another go leggy , im going to try a few new moves to see if that works, i dont like what i just had to do
That was supposed to be a reply. Try again.
Let me try a reply here....Nutter, nutter, nutter....
The Daily Telegraph uses it, but I'm not impressed
That was supposed to be a reply to the Nutter. Not working properly.
I'll try again later.
I'm not impressed, it decided my name was the first word of my e-mail address was my name!
Ah! That's what's happened to mine! Shall investigate.
Should be ok now.
I'll try a reply....
Replying is not working for me...
Weird....it will not let me reply to myself, but worked here.
I can reply but posting a comment doesn't look easy
Testing again....Nutter, nutter, netter...
Yes, this is me and I can post
Sorry about that , LI. Had to test...
It seems that Disquus will not let me reply to myself, but will to others (apart from my first attempt with the Nutter). All very odd...
I hope you took a backup from within Blogger, L-I - just in case you change your mind. I didn't, and I wish I had!
A while back, I tried Intense Debate. Lots of bells and whistles and really quite good - but it had failings, so I ditched it. On ditching ID, I lost all those comments that had been entered via its interface.
Junican, I can reply to myself! Can't think why I'd want to though, since there's an Edit facility.
It's synced with Blogger so all comments are copied there.
It's a shame it posts the newest comment first - I find you quickly lose track of the whole "order of battle", as it were.
A
Sometimes it is handy to be able to add comments to something you have already posted without altering the original. An after-thought. But that's just my way, I suppose.
Antony,
You can change the order using the box on the right above.
Here we go.
Now it is working! What gives?
This is the most interesting thread in a long time
Tempting! I might just follow suit, after watching your place for a couple of weeks!
You're right, Junican. To keep a true record, I shouldn't edit mine - but I can't stand seeing my own typos and grammatical errors.
Testing, testing ...
Testing again, just to make sure
Ooh! It works! And it looks as if I'll even be able to give myself a proper name, too! Just got to think of something witty to call myself now ...
It's certainly the longest!
I thought of mentioning 'typos' and such. I guess a lot depends on the circumstances - for example, if it is quick, you might think of a little additional thing which you could edit for. I suppose that we can only do what we think is most sensible!
Well, much as I was impressed that sparkydickhead impersonated me, this seems right to me!

I must say, It's an impressive post. Testing, Testing and testing all around
Last I checked ID didn't have a proper working import/export tool for Blogger but you could export all the comments to an XML file so they weren't lost forever. The real big failing with ID in my experience is shithouse support. There's an error in the code somewhere on mine that prevents the comment link from showing up and another somewhere in the uninstall/reinstall procedure that's supposed to fix it, and nobody at ID ever responded to my emails. I know it's a free service but that's still poor.
The upside is that is vastly more tuneable than Blogger's comment system. I tried Disqus as well and was reasonably happy until it somehow published Microdave's personal email address in plain view. Never seen it before or since with Disqus so I think it was a one off, but I dropped it in favour of ID anyway. Not perfect but it'll do me.
anon anon anon ANON anon anon anon and on and on......
Sorry i just had to:)
I like Disqus.... been registered for years so I can play with the folks on the newspaper comments ;-)
