Cheerful? There's a cure for that.

Fausty has an excellent video up, well worth a look. If we had a proper television channel in this country it would be screened just before and just after every party political broadcast. But we don't. We have lapdogs and brown-nosers and cowering feeble weaklings instead of broadcasters with gumption. If I saw one of them on fire, I'd get the stick and the marshmallows out.

If, after watching that, you still feel the dreadful pains of contentment and happiness, don't worry. There is a cure. Just wait for the Burnham to find it. He'll make it compulsory.

For the cheeeldren.

Ah... The Burnham...

I was just over at The Filthy Engineer where he's noting that Burnham and pals are quoting £10.3 billion for baccy tax and £2.7 billion for NHS burial fees (no mention of saved pension payouts)....

I've got a huge problem with that £10.2 billion - in 1998 The Government Actuarial Office as was - were commisioned to report on tobacco. The numbers published in that report in 1999 were £10.2 billion vs. £1.7 billion - numbers are etched permanently into my brain.

How much have fags gone up, how many have given up?

This looks like made up bollocks of a high order. Even The Bliar in his last months in No. 10 was still quoting the 1999 £1.7 billion NHS treatment report total (without mentioning the tax take, natch, dissembling shitweasel).

I'm tempted to do the arithmetic - *somebody should* 'cos it simply doesn't ring true - at all........ This must be made up. Got the ring of 25% fewer smokers died of heart attacks in Scotland in the first year of the BAN.

Oh, and the pdf of the report disappeared from gubmint cyberspace in about 2004/5 IIRC - but I read it and have been twatting folk over the head with that pair of numbers for ages.....

Time we saw how much the state protection racket of tobacco tax is really worth maybe?

Damn, I wish I'd kept a copy of that pdf.

Who says the Yanks don't do irony?

The Americans are well aware of irony - we don't seem to be aware of how heavily filterd and skewed our perceptions of the USofA are thanks to the poisonous manoevering of Islington Man - AKA The BBC ... Sneering and misrepresenting to suit their agenda - and they do have an agenda - make no mistake about that....

I am minded to ressurect the memory of America's most decorated war hero General Smedley D Butler and The USA's failed Fascist Coup It's also instructive to read
Some American Business's take on WW2

I agree with the general sentiment in the first video, but for me, the guy ruins it by going on and on about racism.

I gather you're from Wales and now live in Scotland. We'll I'm from the more colourful part of this island, and to be quite frank I'm sick of hearing about racism.

That doesn't make me a racist though.

The 2nd video OTOH is excellent.

Thanks for the mention, Leg-Iron.

Burnham is out of his depth. Recall: a) his pushing of the swine flu vaccine, at a time when it had become obvious to most people that we were being scammed; b) his speech in Liverpool last year.

Burnham's latest hysterical rant at smokers is to distract everyone from the massive increase in NHS waiting times and the doctors who can't speak English, among other disasters.

Whip up a frenzy among the zealots and they'll overlook the real problem.

They are all out of their depth now. The decade of lies is being exposed, bit by bit.
