Random thought....

Still working but something occurred to me while I was rolling up some thinking-leaves. I just want to place it here for opinions and will probably come back to it in detail later.

How many anti-smokers enjoy Parma ham or smoked salmon or kippers? And have they grasped how those things are made?

When (if) they do, will they realise that the risk of third hand smoke is only comparable to those things if they saturate their sofa with smoke and then eat it?

It's also given me an idea for a meal - Parma ham, smoked salmon, the Ardbeg and a cigar. It ALL tastes of SMOKE! Oh, the Righteous will burst their brains trying to take it in.

Good question LI, a thing that has been on my mind for a while now. Have you noticed how hard it is to get smoked bacon these days?

We get some nice triple smoked ham now and again. It's not a local fella but so bloody delicious it's worth going out of the way for on the way home now and then. But since it's triple smoked it's presumably 9th hand smoking. Or possibly 3rd, 4th and 5th hand all in the same mouthful. It must depend on whether the effects accrue or multiply each other. Clearly more research into this is needed and I estimate that a grant of £2 million will be needed for the first year (ham sandwiches, my place, every night, BYOB and smoke if you've got 'em).

You want smoky drinky? Try Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier from Bamberg.
It's like drinking barbecued Guinness.

Conan, talking of Barbecues, how long before the righteous try banning them? Tesco will not be pleased.

Parma ham is one of my favourites, Leg-Iron.

Why don't they just ban fire?

No, I suspect they'll rationalise that away with no problem whatsoever...

Smoked ham? Bacon? Ohnoes! The ebil nitrosamines will send the cancer-fairy your way! Just like ciggies! Better hit them with our ForTheCheeeeeldrin Banning Stick of Righteousness!

Sigh.

Smokey bacon crisps used to be my favourite. Not sure if they've joined spangles in the naughty cupboard as I've not seen them for a while.

Smoked foods have already been linked with increased risk of cancer. Many years ago.

I do sense another need for Government funded research though, as far as I know, nobody has yet tackled the serious risk which must be associated for populations living in close proximity to Crematoria.

There must be a correlation between CO2 per cremation and localised increased temperature. Not forgetting the dangers from "second hand" smoking.

Just a thought to ponder, with a few drams of the smoky tang of peat, and heather.

No. You just don't get it, Leg Iron.

It isn't smoke in general, it's tobacco smoke in particular. As every good anti-smoker knows, you can burn anything you like - coal, diesel, autumn leaves, plastic bags - take three deep breaths and walk away unscathed. But, just they teeniest wisp of tobacco smoke will set you off on a lifetime of suffering and the certainty of early death.

You can tell it's bad for you because of the enjoyment factor. Pleasure = bad.

Ah, Leg-Iron, there has been plenty of health scares about smoked meats over the years - here's some goggle finds just by typing smoked meats health

When the righteous have closed down all the nasty power stations and left us with the bountiful wind- and solar-power of Gaia and the fridges don't work any more, then they discover how the only ways to keep food edible for any period of time use salt and smoke.

Will their pretty little heads explode? And should we salt the bodies or smoke them?

(p.s. LI, I hope your going to smoke that cigar, not eat it.)

Do you believe that?

The anti-Smokers will leave the 'meat' problem with the animal-lovers. Too many eco-loons/fascists/disney fans around today. Should legalize cannabalism, get rid of the do-gooders and cut CO2 production at the same time.

Heard somewhere that 85% of Earth is contaminated with something or another - if so, we are truly doomed and all this worrying and nannying is pointless.

Perhaps someone should have told caveman Mongo who discovered fire and thus led to the destruction of the Human Race which had, until that point, seemed so promising. All those counteless generations of pre-humanoids dieing of cancer in their smokey caves, and for what!?
