Referendum time.

Oily Al might as well go ahead with that referendum on Scottish independence. Look who Labour have chosen to front the 'No' campaign. Al can't lose.

He commands immense respect in Scotland and would be more than a match for Mr Salmond.

It's no good. Can't type for laughing.

They must be fucking joking surely?

Or is it they need to give Broon a job?

If true that Brown enjoys such respect(which I find totally implausible) then I have lost faith and respect for the Scottish people as a whole.

As an Englishman, I hope they get their independence. They deserve it.

With Jonah on the job, Scotland will be a full blown republic by Christmas!!

The Bogeyman "... commands immense respect ..." ?

Just shows how completely disconnected are the Mail, and the MSM in general, from public opinion.

Keyboard now being put out to dry!

That is weird. Unless it is indeed part of a cunning plan to ensure that the SNP win the referendum.

Jonah himself! Oh well every constituency that the two Eds went on campaigning fell to the SNP. How not to win an election the Labour way.

At least Broon will be getting himself out of one of his jobs...

One real advantage with Scotland getting independence is that Labour will never again govern from Westminster.

One serious disadvantage with Scotland getting independence is that it will be years before the Conservatives have any real opposition in Westminster.

I wonder if Ed's actually been pretty clever here.

His message might turn out to be 'Hey, Scotland, if you get independence, you have to keep him.'

It's even possible that the people of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath keep voting for him because then he'll bugger off to Westminster.

He's stopped going to Westminster, so let's see what they try next. MEP perhaps?

I almost wet myself laughing reading this - Gordon as Champion - FFS!! Go Al go. Is this intended as a consolation prize as the c*** didn't get the IMF job?

If Scotland leaves the union, then that's it for Labour. Without Scottish labour MPs they will never have enough seats for government. the corollary is that we will have the Tories in power every time. Do we really want that too? Also if the UK moves apart what happens to our seat at the UN security council? all the nukes will be outside of Scotland but we have fewer than Pakistan!

Splendid - if true. Literally scraping the bottom of the barrel or cludgie. Maybe both in the spirit of trendy multi-tasking.

Bring him in to show him up and out along with the rest of them (Darling et al).
