Abbot - ah, but...

I don't have a Twitter account for a lot of reasons. One, I cannot even say 'hello' in 140 characters, two, I don't know what it's for, three, it just gets people arrested for making jokes, four, I have too many accounts in too many names as it is, five, I don't have a phone that can do it and don't have eyes that could see such a tiny internet screen and fifty,. can't be bothered with it.

It gets ordinary people in trouble for careless comments (remember the guy and the Robin Hood Airport tweet?) so for anyone in the public eye, MP or celeb or whatever, can they really imagine the press isn't watching every character they type?

Diane Abbot, loony champagne Leftie extraordinare, has been accused of racism because of some idiotic comment she made. She claims the comment was taken out of context but quite how you extract an out of context quote from 140 characters is beyond my analytical capabilities. Then she apologised and she and her loony leftie friends thought that was the end of it.

Is she a racist? I don't think she is. I think she's an idiot because sending such a comment into the ether is lunacy. It's not her first visit to loony land, as Pingu's sweary cousin points out and it won't be her last because Ed Moribund won't sack her. Then again, as Cullingworth's view observer says - politician, hypocrisy, why is anyone surprised?

In the law, as it stands, she is guilty. Not because it makes any sense but because it's the law. If someone calls me a greasy Eyetie or a spaghetti-nosher, I don't care and will not call the police. However, if someone nearby perceives the calling of me by those names as racist and calls the police, the law as it stands means that the name-caller will be prosecuted under race laws.

Diane Abbot's comment was racist even though I do not believe she is. It was racist in that it defined an entire ethnic group within one derogatory statement. As a honky myself I took no offence other than to observe that it is not white people, but politicians such as herself, who are using the 'divide and rule' principle these days.

So in law, as defined by her own party while in government, if any third party whether white, black, beige or blue decides to be offended by perceived racism, she is in trouble.

Oh, and the Righteous see apology as a sign of weakness. If the Righteous want her gone, she's gone. She is one of them, true, but so is Jamie 'Spittle' Oliver and it hasn't helped him. They will turn on their own the moment they go off-message.

I suspect that, despite the Moribund's utter lack of balls and her own utter lack of principle, she will still be on the next voting forms. That Tory who went to a party where someone dressed in Nazi uniform was sacked and now risks criminal charges, but a slur on everyone white is just laughed off.  She represents a constituency which, we are told at every turn, is 61% white. I bet most of them never bothered to vote at the last election.

I also bet most of them will be sure to vote at the next one. It doesn't really matter because they'll drone-vote anyway so whichever party gets in, that fan will be just as brown and stinky as before.

Lee Jaspercarrott thinks racism is more rife than ever before,. Possibly it is, after all, Labour put a lot of effort into encouraging it and the Coagulation continues their agenda. However, these days it's not about what race you are. It's about the size of your waist, your frequency of Oddbins visits, how much salt you put on your chips and whether you smoke.

If you are a fat black drinking smoker who likes salty chips.you are, in the UK, in serious trouble. However, you are in no more trouble than your white counterpart. That's equality. Diane Abbott was a big booster of equality so remember that when putting your X in the box next time. She's one of those who did this to you.

Diane Abbott was part of the government that brought about this equality. The one in which the politicians despise us all equally. Modern hate is not about the colour of your skin, it's about how much skin you have and what you put inside it. The law, however, only defends the colour.

She was one of those who made this happen. She was one of those who created these laws.

They are ridiculous, but they are laws. Should she escape them?

One rule for the proles, another for the Politburo. Let's see if that's true.

Many, many people are about to find out just where they stand.

Racism will never be tackled, confronted or properly addressed to the satisfaction of Abbott, Jasper and their ilk because they would the have to say "mission accomplished, it's been nice knowing you, does anyone know if I could get a job in the local Tesco?"  It is their raison d'etre and their meal ticket so it will always exist in their own minds if nowhere else*

Truth is, I don't know a single person who dislikes an entire race of people and considers them all to have the same personal characteristics (except Abbott that is).  But I do not some people (I am one) who notes the prevelance of some groups of people in some statistics.  Koreans for example, do really well in US education, so much so in fact, that they are no longer minorities apparently.  Other groups appear over-represented in other statistics.

I would just like to make one request to Nick Clegg however.  He is concerned about the under representation of Asians in professional football. So would it not follow, that a group that is over-represented should make way for some Asian footballers?

(* Mrs SAOT is an immigrant to the UK and does not have white skin.  She tells me in the 25 years she has been here, she has never once expereinced any direct racism, not does she imagien herself to have been treated differently because of her ethnicity ~ and if I told you what her surname is!!)

No doubt she's all for a fat tax, too.

It’s notable, isn’t it, that whenever a politician apologises for anything, they don’t actually apologise for what they’ve done, but apologise instead for “any hurt/upset/offence caused,” which isn’t quite the same thing as actually being sorry for having done or said something bad, is it?  It also, in a subtle way, quietly puts at least a bit of the onus back onto the recipient of the hurt/offence/upset in question for getting hurt/offended/upset in the first place.

Until Ms Abbot actually says (or types) the words – “I’m really sorry for what I said.  It was inaccurate, foolish and wrong,” then as far as I’m concerned, she is effectively standing by what she said without any hint of shame.

Have you seen the size of some of those medics and politicians demanding a fat tax? You could run a power station with their waistlines.

You'll have a long wait. She now insists that every black person suffers from racists and that all taxi drivers are racist. I think she's trying to get the sack.

I'm afraid the mad wench does not believe there is anyone non-white who has not suffered racism. it's the taxi drivers, apparently.

When you pay someone to deal with a problem, the last thing they will do is solve it because that ends their job. Whether it's ASH or the Temperance lot or the anti-salt brigade or whoever - their existence depends on the continued existence of the 'problem'.

No problem, real or perceived, will ever be solved that way.

The r-word is a ghastly loaded taboo-ey word and I think Ms Brand is a stand out winner in enunciating the paralysing PC feckwittedness usage the word gets put to.

I used to have most of those reasons. Even when I finally got a smartphone, I only really registered so that I could 'broadcast' my blogposts.

But that soon changed! And yesterday afternoon's little episode with Milibland's little faux pas brought home why I love Twitter. The immediacy, the vicious mocking. It was awesome to behold... :)

It's been pointed out that - if taxi drivers are so reluctant to pick up the divine Ms Abbott - it's a little strange that she still managed to claim over £1000 in taxi fares on expenses...

I think she's amazed at how much she's got away with over the years. Many right wing commentators have prefaced their articles about her by saying "I don't believe she is a racist". She knows that she is and she's having a bit of innocent fun finding out how abusive she can get before it really hots up.

Of course, no MP of any party would call for her resignation, so she's perfectly safe

John miller said...

Agreed. When you read her "apology" you find it is a criticism of you having a tiny brain and being unable to comprehend the concepts involved.

Ah yes, you're referring to the "blackbusters" typo in his tweet about the late lamented Bob Holness. Pure comedy gold!!

"I don't have a Twitter account for a lot of reasons."

I did belatedly register an account to reserve my name but its remained unused. I just cannot fathom what its for?

Is Abbott a Racist? Of course, it's the way she makes a living, just like clever Trevor Phillips. They, and many like them have constructed an entire industry around race that they do their damndest not to solve. Messes with the Pension Plan see.

As a honky am I offended by her remarks? Not in the slightest.(Where is all this divide and rule going on by the way? Not round my way that's for certain).

Basically, THICK is what she is, and her own Party know it very well.

Why do you think that in all the years she has been an MP (the first Black Woman, oh give your eye teeth for those brass balled untouchable Kudos!) , she has never held a Cabinet position, Junior or Senior, until this very moment.

She was elected in 1987, a decade before the NuLab Blairite revolution. But there followed 13 years of Labour rule that managed to find the Deputy leadership position for Two Jags Prezza (last working class person in Labour party captivity) but not even a tea lady job for darling Diane! Funny? Very bleedin odd indeed!

You're not sorry in the slightest Mineshaft, and you're not right either, perfectly entitled to your opinion though.

I repeat... Abbott was elected the first Black Woman MP in Britain in 1987. The highest profile black woman in the country. If the Kinnock shadow Govt couldn't use that to their considerable advantage by giving her at least a Junior shadow ministry post, then there was either something seriously wrong with them or her. They chose not to.

This obviously had nothing whatever to do with a war in Iraq or anywhere else, they hadn't been started yet. So what was the problem with Diane?  Well I believe thickness and grand hypocracy was the problem (privately educated sprog, now at Cambridge, while mum champions the Comprehensive system that she won't touch with a Yam in case her Precious turns into a Gangsta Rapper on drugs).

Clair Short, a Cabinet Minister in Trust me I'm Tony's Army, did oppose the war, but stayed in office. She was not fired or resigned (yes venal self serving scum and all that, but Abbott was never in that exalted position in the first place. Why? Thick, and a loose cannon to boot, given to blurting out any old twaddle at the drop of a hat).

The woman is a much a dinosaur as Hesletine and Clarke, all politicians who's thought processes stopped growing in the late 70's and remain ossified ever since.

To even suggest that her tweet was a cover for a scandal in the Congo is ludicrous! Like almost everyone else, Diane tweets first and then thinks later... Maybe.

She is now shadow minister for Health. A post that covers many of my favorite pastimes... Sex, Drugs, Booze, great lumps of fat filled incredibly tasty properly seasoned food, lots of salt and pepper vinegar and chips, yum!

I wish her all the best with that, but we all love being lectured on Health by a grossly obese santimonious braindead loudmouth don't we?

Her only chance now is to revive her career as a sit down comedienne, on the  Abbott & Portaloo Show. ;-)
