Green Men with Gravy.

It seems there are plans to turn UK agricultural land into sun farms by paying farmers to cover them with solar panels. So that will cut food production.

What does grow is going to be turned into biofuel so you can drive to the shop and fight over the last sprout in the vegetable racks. Another huge swathe of land taken out of food production.

The Green Men say we should all be vegetarian. With what, exactly? When there are no vegetables, what then, Greenies? When you have taken all food producing land into supremely expensive and pointless 'green energy' projects, what do you imagine we will eat then?

I wonder if Greenies are halal?

Why does every project, program and plan involve the cost of living going up?

There was a piece on Newsnight earlier about a Conservative run council planning to switch some street lights off. Other councils started doing this last year and didn't receive much attention for it so why this one?

Aside from the 'planning'* costing nearly as much as the council estimated they would save, they said the council's lighting bill had gone up from just over £1million a year to £5million a year in only a few years due to climate change taxation.

What have the powers that be got against low living costs? They hate the idea of free trade which would do in short order what they claim to want - redistribute wealth from rich to poor. It would do so by choice rather than by force and both we as richer consumers and the poorer producers would benefit - we would see our cost of living fall and they would see their incomes rise.

Our 'betters' also know that increasing the number of 'poor' people is great business for them - it excuses taking more and more money from taxpayers to redistribute by force.

Perhaps the intention is also to keep inflation high without admitting it and trying to inflate away the massive taxpayer debts.

* I'm not sure what planning is needed. Switch lights on later. Switch lights off earlier. Take out every other bulb. They don't have a statutory requirement to provide it so it is something they can cut back on without getting into legal trouble.(Voter trouble is another matter)

@Gareth, some while back it was announced that the lights on a local stretch of motorway would be switched off after midnight to save my city some money which is bollox becasue A) My city is not responsible for lighting motorways, the government is and B) it is a lie because said lights are still on in the early hours of the morning.

The more I hear about what successive Governments have done, or are planning to do, the more conspiratorial I become. They’ve sold off to “overseas interests” pretty much everything that we had which was worth any money, closed down anything which was too small-beer for “overseas interests” to be interested in, allowed the EU Common Fisheries Policy to decimate our fishing industry, and now they’re trying to convince farmers not to grow any food! It seems that having failed to make the majority of the population personally dependent upon them (the totally-benefits-dependent being, for all the hype, still very much a minority group), they’re now trying the different tack of making the whole country dependent upon imports just to feed, clothe, warm and house itself.

On the subject of Greenies I suppose we could all eat each others snot while the subversives could chuck stones at rabbits for food and go for a shit under a bush in the corner of what used to be a field; swapping central heating for mud and blood and rain and rocks and always being wet and cold because the plastic bags we use for clothes don't last as long as they said they would.

That is what they want.

Apparently, a great many have already died of starvation as a direct result of biofuels replacing food crops.

I saw this blamed for the Haitians having to eat mud pies.

It's an obvious part of the depopulation agenda - grow less food and people will die.

It is unimaginable evil that's happening in plain sight and dressed up as something good - saving this planet for a handful of eugenicists to live on (and enough proles to do all the work, pay all the taxes and ensure the elites have everything they desire).

I suspect they are free-range and cholesterol free! Wonder if they can be smoked?

This thing about lighting highways and turning them off past midnight to save electricity - why can't they light the highways normally from sunset to some reasonable late hour then install automatic motion controlled switches so as one drives down the highway past midnight until sunrise, the lights stay off until the car approaches, turns on, then turns off afterwards. Why in this technologically advanced age of sensors and switches aren't technological solutions sought. Why when it comes to seeking technological solutions, they seem to know how to install traffic cams to automatically record one's speed and license number and if they're smoking while driving - but can't put that same technology to use doing something to save money and help the citizen, instead of earn money by being used against the citizen. Isn't someone in control of the technology supposed to be figuring out ways to use it to the good, instead of to the bad. And since one thing builds on another, then we have escalation of lies upon lies, corruption upon corruption and everyone blinkered with shudders aside their eyes and muffs over their ears to block out the common sense and just accept what has become totalitarian and evil in our midst, masquerading now as green solutions, which wouldn't have been needed in the first place had technology been property applied to help and save money instead of misapplied against the citizen merely to punish and take money. Do these government bureaucrats ever think about that - or no, they just demand more money for doing more nonsensical and illogical things as they harm the very citizens who pay to keep them in their smug idiotic positions of responsibility.

Tesco built and opened a temporary store in Workington, when a vital road bridge was washed away by fllods, in just 13 days.
Tesco is now removing that store as its planning permission has run out and the County Council won't extend the permission.

When it went up in 2009 there was no bridge left it was all washed away. There is now a temporary road bridge.
CCC and the coagulation are still talking about the design of the temporary bridges permanent replacement!
Big state, big government doesn't bloody work and it hasn't the slightest clue about how to use technology to bring benefits to the people who pay their wages.

Never mind the camp fire of the quangos we need a bonfire of government.

On the other hand, we could have mobile lights following the car around. Actually, thinking about it, the lights could actually be fitted to the car - I'm sure technology could come up with a way of allowing the driver to switch them on and off himself as required.

Although it's bonkers for the UK, the idea of combining solar & agriculture makes sense in some places, e.g. the Sahara. There, a solar mirror collector system running steam generators uses its waste heat/moisture to provide perfect growing conditions underneath the mirrors, where the partial shade is ideal for crops which would be fried in the direct sunshine.

Climate change report sets out an apocalyptic vision of Britain
February 26, 2010

"The vision is published today in a report entitled Land Use Futures: Making the Most of Land in the 21st Century. John Beddington, the Government’s chief scientific adviser, who directed the research, said that climate change and the growing population would present Britain with difficult choices about how it used its land."

The report, compiled by 300 scientists, economists and planners, includes three scenarios to “stimulate thought” and “highlight difficult policy dilemmas that government and other actors may need to consider in the future”.

All the scenarios involve dramatic changes in lifestyles and landscapes in response to climate change."

Well worth a read.

I wondered what the eugenicists were going to do to reduce the size of the population. Now I know.

Some while ago someone commented to me that, rather than exhorting everyone to install solar panels or wind turbines on their roofs which by all accounts rarely provide sufficient power for a whole household, surely the technology must exist to put a tiny little solar panel (or wind turbine) atop every lamppost – or at least the ones on major roads – creating just the small amount of electricity required for that one light. I don’t know enough about it to know if that would work, but if so I can’t think that it would be that complicated to achieve, and it would save the councils (i.e. we the taxpayers) money and please the greenies, as well.

A typical street lamp consumes 400W, or rather more than half a horsepower, for at least 8 hours per day. I doubt a small solar panel could provide that amount , and a wind-powered generator would have to be pretty large, and of course there would have to be a suitably large storage battery incorporated.

Most street lighting is sodium of Hg vapour, both of which have heat-up & turn-on times of quite a few minutes. Also there is a necessary pause of approx 10 minutes after they are switched off before restarting - they must cool down before reignition, or the lamp will be damaged.

So switching them on & off with demand sounds a good idea but is not possible.
