Tales of gloom and despair.

Well, I think I have managed to get a small collection of stories on Lulu.

The actual print book is here, but Lulu are not cheap for books and their postage can be hefty if you're just buying one. Click on 'preview' below the picture to take a look inside.

It's also in Ebook version here but as far as I can tell it's only in PDF format. I don't know if that limits the readers that can use it. So far I haven't managed to work out how to make it an iBook. Ebooks are cheaper and of course there's no postage, but I can't sit and read on a screen. I won't be getting one of those Ebook readers any time soon.

For those who want to read it but don't want print or Ebook versions, there is a free download version here.

I have a feeling the free download is not really any different to the Ebook version, you know, but what the hell. I'm not expecting to get rich from this thing.

The new iBook app reads PDFs just fine.

For that price it's worth a read; I have a few iPhone apps that can read PDFs.

There is an opensource application, written mostly in Python, called Calibre. I would suggest getting hold of this, since it is the absolute best ebook management tool I have ever come across, and makes translating from format to format absolute child's play. For preference I use the EPUB format since most ebook readers can handle it; Calibre makes converting stuff to this format extremely easy

Stoats in coolie hats robbing milk at midnight? Wow, I've only ever see weasels in balaclavas. Must be a Scotland thing ;)

Looking forward to reading these. A lot.

Have you got it up on Amazon yet Leggy?

It's been a few years since I used Lulu, but you have to fill in some online form and once that's done your book is listed on Amazon, BOL, Blackwells etc. And it has an ISBN. Be warned though - Amazon et al take 30% of the pro=ice (or rather you need to add a load to the price to cover it).

typo - price. Obviously.

PT Barnum - you read the foreword? Nobody reads the forewords. They're garnish.

Mr. A - I've just about managed to get the book in there. There is talk of getting an ISBN on the site but I haven't found the page yet. I'll look into it later.

Well, congrats on getting your epitome this far. The rest of us are still thinking about it. I've read the forward and it's looking good. £4.50 ain't that bad for a book these days. The only downside? You ain't Edwina Curry reporting on sex with Old Grey Thingummywotsit, so it might not sell. But I guess you knew that anyway.

L-I, if your foreword had begun less arrestingly, I would have read it last (as I invariably do). And now I'm trying to remember the book (Clive Barker?) in which the narrator (who is the book) repeatedly says 'Don't read this'....

About a third through so far. 'Telephone Pest' really has something creepy-nasty going on (big compliment!) but favourite so far is 'Facing Eternity' - elegant, economic narrative, and a memorable frisson of ice-cold horror.

What you need LI is an iPad. You can read to your heart's content very comfortably and even in the pitch darkness. That would be most convenient for you of course when you're out in your greenhouse in the dead of night ensuring the safety of its contents.

And you can do everything on it you can do on a laptop.

ps Don't buy one just yet. My commission contract from Apple hasn't arrived. I've reminded them around 22 times now...

menopausaloldbat - no, no geriatric sex in my books. Especially not between Egg Woman and Captain Monochrome. There are limits to horror, you know.

PTB - I hope you went to bed before 'The Hand that Feeds'. It's best not to go to bed afterwards.

Subrosa - Does Apple still negate their warranty for smokers? I'm not sure I trust them yet.

Read the lot, I'm afraid, such very moreish stories. My not having a dishwasher may have immunised me somewhat against 'The Hand that Feeds', but 'The Imagination Virus' is a beautifully conceived and written piece, disclosing its logic so stealthily.

I shall, however, now be looking in dark alleyways for elves and plying them with all the beer they could desire.

Just bought my copy. Sorry, I prefer good 'ol paper when reading fiction.

Hi. I woke up today too hungover to drag myself out for a paper. I spent a happy afternoon engrossed in your book. Well done. Short stories and horror stories aren't my thing, or so I thought. I especially liked the dishwasher and the virus ones. You should definitely be trying to get your novels published.

PS a developing chest infection may bring forward the electrofag leap, for a committed smoker are you recommending the Njoy?

Warmest thoughts

My hard copy is on its way, I've loved all the stories you've posted so far, took all my willpower not to read the PDF but I'm going to sit on my hands and read it properly. Will let you know how ordering and shipping to Switzerland goes...

I hope you're all enjoying that one. There's a second one building up. That will be all unpublished stories (well, apart from some that were published here).

I'm not sure whether to put more on the blog. If people are paying Lulu for them, it seems a bit of a swiz to put those they've paid for on here too.

So I'll have to write new ones.
