I'm off to Denormalised Club, otherwise known as Smoky-Drinky, because we smokers aren't wanted in the pubs. We are selfish for wanting one place for ourselves, and the Righteous are not selfish for wanting all places for themselves. Hey, that's what I keep hearing, as if telling me over and over is going to make it make sense.
There are a few cbubby Smoky-Drinkers who will be interested to hear that they are the new Wicker Man - as well as having already experienced the hate aimed at their smoking and drinking.
It's going to be interesting.

Probably a bit late in the day but, as a smokey drinker, I now boycott those pubs, generally the chain owned gastro variety, that have made little or no effort to provide semi-outdoor smoking facilities. That's about 25% of local outlets that will no longer benefit from my tainted pound.
It could go further, how about large groups arriving at a struggling pub, ask about what provision has been made for smokers and then leaving having declared them innadequate instead of just putting up with standing underneath a soggy brolly?
i hope you have a good time, and, belated happy birthday wishes,
Given what 'normal society' is defined to be, and by the people doing the defining, I'm happy to be denormalised.
30% of people intend to vote nulaba FFS. Not that blulaba are any different.
It's hard to avoid thinking (like the politicians do) that 'normal' people are fucking idiots.
By the time the righteous are finished, 'normal' people will comprise 1% of the population (tops). Brings to mind your excellent rant "We're all racists now".
p.s.
Have you noticed any signs of chilling out more and relaxing since you turned 50?
You appear to be on the path the of G.O.T. (smiley face etc)
Smoking ban to be lifted (partially) :

Even the regulations for smoking shelters are a joke -

Banned - that's a good idea. We should try that, but then pubs are restricted in what they can provide.
Anon - not too belated. I'm still celebrating waking up in the morning. I think it was John Betjeman who once said 'I wake up in the morning and think What? Again?' I'm not that old yet...
Jimmy/Rab - great links. Post developing...
Oh yes. A great night at denormalised club last night. The Burning Fat Boy story started with laughs but didn't end with them.
We had 'the Rocky Horror Picture Show' on and we all agreed that if the Smoke Inspectors are going to visit, we're going to get Tim Curry's leather basque and makeup to greet them in.
Come inside, if you (uh) want it (uh).
We'll have competitions based on the longest crap-streak on the garden path.
One of the roles the Left has taken up during Labour's benighted reign of terror has been that of "getting offended on behalf of those who either haven't got the time to be offended or can't be bothered to be offended, but really should be offended, as Labour deems that they should be.".
Don't you agree? Professional proxy offendees.
