Nothing to do with the Smoky-Drinky place, but you won't find it in this weather.Subrosa has the news that it's Geminids night. Last night and tonight, it's been dense fog here so I won't get to see them. Bah.
By the way, those are indeed cycle lanes on either side of the road and the more observant will have noticed there's no white line down the centre of the road.
That's because if there were, nothing wider than a Mini would fit between the lines. If you stay out of the cycle lanes you risk hitting oncoming traffic. If you go into the cycle lanes you risk a fine.
The cyclists use the pavement as they always did.
Common sense, eh? Who needs it?

CynicalHighlander's seen a couple going from east to west and quite low but I think he's more to the west. It's quite clear here now.
I've been looking but it is cold (-5) but nothing as yet. Plenty time though.
Maybe it'll clear for tomorrow night for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I hope so. In all the years I've been here, I've seen the Northern lights once and had a good clear night for most of the moon eclipse. I've missed most other events.
There are people here who refuse to believe there's a blue sky just above the grey one.

Cycle lanes... Do not drive or park in a cycle lane marked by a broken white line unless it is unavoidable...
Sure they're a waste of paint somewhere like that, and possibly had at least as much to do with spunking away the budget before the end of the financial year as road safety, but because they're broken lines you won't get fined for using them when other traffic means you really have to. Solid white lines are another matter of course, and I'm sure there's a heap of examples of solid line type cycle lanes that are just as stupidly arranged and really would cause extra fines if strictly enforced.
Anyhow, you think you've got it bad? Down here the geniuses who run Melbourne have been known to slow a fucking freeway down to 40 kph for a cycling event, and despite an extensive cycle path down the coast road on the eastern side of Port Philip Bay packs of lycra wearers tend to ignore it in favour of taking up one of the two lanes.
About 15 years ago, I hooked up a sensitive camera facing SE with a VCR to record the Leonid (I think) meteorite shower. This was mostly because I couldn't be arsed to get up in the early hours of the morning and watch it live.
To my immense satisfaction, on a cursory fast forward of the tape I saw the most incredble cluster of lights whizzing through the sky. Then to my amazement, I noticed they all tended to start circling and descend, and I realised I had just found Stansted Airport. Wanker. True story.
Angry exile - I don't have a car so I'll take your word for it. I suppose it would be too obvious a revenue-generator if they make the road actually impassable without a fine or a crash.
Dave H - could happen to anyone. The airport nearby has an approach route over the town so I see odd lights too.
Not tonight though. It's completely clouded over.
