Adding blogs

Adding blogs here is a piece of piss.

I thought it must be hard to get all those blogs to automatically update in the sidebar but so far, no problems. I've only put in a few so far but I'll add more when I'm less inebriated (Glenfiddich 12-year-old currently only £20 at Tesco. If you're a Jack Daniels fan, you can get two bottles for £25 there at the moment. Not my cup of tea, unfortunately).

Leave a note if you're not in yet and I'll add your blog. Looks like it might even be easy to categorise here, something that was way out of my league on LiveJournal.

Ah, excellent.

LegIron, I think there's a backup and restore facility in blogger control panel - dunno if that'll help in migration?

Micro$not always complicate things. Google's a lot sleeker, if an avid miner of our data.

Welcome to blogspot.

I always find the comments at livejournal sites to be fiddly and awkward so I'm glad when blogs I read move to another platform.

Thanks for link. I have promoted you to my "Top twelve blogs" widget just to get the new ball rolling. It seems to update for your new posts.

PS, leaving comments on the old blog was a complete bummer, to be honest. Don't forget (on this blog) to turn on comment moderation for posts older that [choose a number] days, it cuts down spam.

Thanks for the link!

I shall watch with interest. I may want to follow. I'll be interested to know how easy it was to do. And whether there were any things that are gained or lost (apart from the more sensible comments (can you put images in them like you can in Livejournal?)). Some people swear by Wordpress.

And I could probably do a custom 'reaper' graphic for you, if you wanted. It would have to be done in the Frank Davis graphic style. i.e. not very polished. Shouldn't take very long to knock one up from a simple description.

Excellent, glad to see you here, L-I.

Wordpress gave me a feeling of despair. Blogroll updated over at mine, would love an add here, as you are my biggest referrer!

Welcome from out of the cold to a civilised blogging country ;-)

Welcome across to Blogger. Fixed your new addy. I'm sure you're too tech-savvy to do whatever it is that I do wrong, but if you paste in stuff from anothe docuemnt it buggers up the spacing and you have to save and do it again.
And them it makes your last paragraph go really small. Bastards. I blame the Masons. Good luck anyway - otherwise it's a good service.

Constantly Furious said...

Aha! There you are.

I'll update mine, if you update yours. Blogroll, that is ;-)

Mark Wadsworth said...

Re what Northwester says, to avoid this, you have to click to "edit html' rather than "compose" bfore you paste stuff in. If you don't, then blogger inserts div tags more or less at random which buggers the spacing.

Annoyingly, it inserts div tags all over the place if you submit posts by email.

The only off-putting thing about the Blogger comment page is the Google Account option. I've got no tinfoil predilection towards Google. To my thinking the tin foil hats sit atop the pointy heads of the prohibition revivalist crowd. Imagined instantly-lethal secondhand smoke fumes are their flying saucers.

I've got no gripe per se with Google. I simply delete their cookies on a regular basis and I take a pass on their g-mail and toolbars. Back in the molasses in January days of dial-up, their quick-loading, clean, minimalist landing page was a brilliant stroke of tech creativity. Although I've grown partial to the Ixquick search engine, Google performs this function laudably also. My other problem with Google is a creepy feeling I get that they're standing over my shoulder watching me surf the net so that they can 'deliver meaningful ads'. Whether serving up ads or arrest warrants, databases are kind of Reichy buzzards by their very nature. They really should spare themselves the labor investment - in my ten years or so on the net I've yet to click on one pop-up advertisement.

I'm a born and bred Californian and this much I do know about the Googles and voided- warranty-if you-smoke Apple Computers of the world. The headquarters of these tech giants are both situated in the epicenter of a Hippy-turned-wellness-Taliban area known as the Bay Area of California. Belmont, CA, the town that banned smoking in your own home, is a hop-skip-and-a-jump away. This area elects by landslide one Nanncy Pelosi, the righteous Mother Hen of Congress who once said "Every aspect of our lives must be subjected to inventory". The chances of getting hired by either of these companies if you happen to smoke are likely zero to none. De facto housing and employment discrimination is still alive and well in this Democrat stronghold.

This whole newfound anti-smoking zealotry overtaking Silicon Valley is a complete turnaround from the salad days of the digital revolution. Writing computer code is a vocation that lends itself to chain-smoking. The original Bill Gates' of the world ate pizza, drank Cokes and smoked incessantly. Now Gates and NYC Nanny Michael Bloomberg are off on a crusade to rid the earth of wicked tobacco with their fortunes.
