Work beckons.

Blogging will be intermittent for a while. I'll be moving around a bit, and that means finding the stuff I need among the piles of junk that surround me.

News is dominated by this voicemail nonsense, where politicians try their best to make someone else look even more devious and underhand than they are. As if that was even possible.

It has reached farce level already, with Murdoch getting pied, the pie-thrower getting whacked, and really, it's going to be downhill from here. Call me when the dancing girls come on.

Meanwhile, in antismoker land, that old report showing that smokers had a lower incidence of Alzheimer's has not only been denied, it has been reversed. Smoking now causes Alzheimers. Ah, but it's not just smoking. The narrative has moved on.

For the first time, scientists have calculated the extent to which certain lifestyle traits – including lack of exercise, smoking and obesity – all contribute to the disease.

Meanwhile the real causes of this disease are not being investigated. Like all those other diseases where the medical world says "Oh - we'll just blame it on fat drunk smokers" and that's the end of research into the matter. So don't expect any cures. Nobody is looking for any. Everything is caused by one or more of the disapproved lifestyles. Real causes? Ah, who cares, it's easier and cheaper to blame that bloke over there for all of it.

Note that the effects have been 'calculated'. Not researched. Just a few folk round a table deciding what will look good on their next grant application. Just like alcohol units and five-a-day. It's all just made up these days. NHS? You'd be better off visiting the guy in the woods who wears a grass skirt and waggles his rattly thing at you. He doesn't cost millions per minute, either.

As for drink, well, I think this and this covers just about everything. All I can add to that is 'Told you'. If you're a teetotal nonsmoker and your waist is an inch larger than permitted, or you happen to like a burger now and then, or you put salt on your chips, pay attention to the techniques. You're on the list too.

In fact, unless you are a perfect fit for the British Standard Human and live the British Standard Life, you are on the list.

Don't imagine for a moment the Righteous will stop their advancing control over every aspect of your life. They never stop. They have to be stopped and even then, they'll come back. The current batch are confident enough to propose a nationwide ban on smoking outdoors less than a week after the Stony Stratford Showdown. They are not going to stop when they've eradicated smokers, you know. Whatever you do for relaxation, they are coming for you too.

Because whatever you like to do, it harms children. Not true? Nothing you do could possibly affect a child? Oh, do pay attention. It doesn't have to be true. It no longer even needs to be plausible. They'll just make it up and their drones will believe it. Even if you're currently a drone, you can rest assured they will turn on you. You can agree with them now, you can support them all you want, but when they don't need you any more...

Just ask CAMRA.

Right. To work. As I said, blogging might be intermittent. I don't have one of those funny phone things that does internet so I can't blog on the move.

Banning smoking is a lot like throwing virgins in a volcano. In pagan times, people would think by allowing one choice hand-selected virgin among them to be snatched by government and thrown into a volcano, then the gods would be appeased and life would be better, until the next time a virgin need be selected. In modern times, people willfully believe the anti-smoking lies and propaganda and say nothing to contradict the obvious second-hand-smoke-myth used to propagate smoke bans, in hopes that by saying nothing and continuing the smoke-ban escalations, then everything in society will be fine and dandy from then on - until after a while and then the government comes after someone else to ban (throw in the volcano), be it drinkers or eaters next - but someone needs thrown in that volcano and everyone has to stay on their toes to make sure it's not them or someone they know, thus they acquiesce, to keep attention detracted from themselves. Government using its might as a fear factor among the people is about as pagan as it gets.

mainstream media outlets like channel 4 are ravenously munching away at the news international story as though they were starving famine victims - yet their coverage of the crisis in somalia is no less than an outrageous opportunist disgrace. instead of examining the root-causes of the current war in somalia, channel 4 news has, in successive evening bulletins, cynically used the desperate drought story to propagandize allegations of aid-blocking against 'islamic extremist' factions, such as al-shabaab, and to perpetuate the malicious american myth that somalia is a hot-bed of al qaeda terrorism - when, in fact, a cursory investigation of the somalian predicament reveals that al-shabaab was only radicalized (by foreign elements) in 2006 after the cia and other western intelligence agencies conducted power, via their allies in ethiopia, to perniciously precipitate the overthrow of the moderate islamic courts union government in mogadishu, at a time when somalia was enjoying a settled period of national reconciliation and looking forward to a lasting peace - the united states administration's main motivation for régime-change apparently consisting in a linguistic objection to the religious reference in the former somalian coalition's title. so, in effect, while john blow and his chums on the channel 4 newsdesk are vaingloriously revelling in the blood-orgy of recriminations against politically-corrupt murdoch journalism, they are simultaneously shamelessly flaunting their sewer-standard of decadent-double-dross drainalism by comfortably lounging and lunching on the turgid toadstall of establishment-backed islamophobia - and i would conjecture that this must 'account' for the psychedelic neck-ties.

at least former ghanaian president, jerry rawlings, came contritely choked-up on camera and, in the couple of minutes granted him, made the case for testing al-shabaab's pledge to allow aid through to the hunger-stricken infants - instead of holding-up al-shabaab 'terrorism' as a crudely contrived christian excuse for allowing babies to die on an empty stomach. unfortunately, the forlorn flight-lieutenant failed to address the issue of anti-humanitarian american intervention which originally flared the war and fostered the al-shabaab freedom-fighting spirit - and this was a real pity, as that kind of selfless-pan-african-commitment would have surely given his political-pleas the ethical edge to slash through the false-front of lame liberal anguish at the supposedly insoluble 'problem' of impassable islamic insouciance.

democros - dissent-vindictive (continuation) said...

but however pretentious one may have found mr rawling's celebrity cameo, his charitable, if conceited, emotional effort contrasts distinctly with that despicable race of westernized africans, lolling luxuriously here in the united kingdom, who just snipe at the carnal televized coverage of fly-frothing children, criticizing it as 'denigrating to africa', yet themselves stay sitting-sweet contemplating an infinite-zerocity of action to alleviate the suffering of their own 'brothers' and 'sisters' - god forbid that these afro-antagonists would swipe their suavely symbolic credit-cards and travel to the prayerless place-of-empty plates to face the froze-frantic fearfield of shrivelled-up shari'a shoots, switching away the irritants inconveniently snagging the insecticidolized from an eternally grateful sleep, as jerry did...

...no, they crave and clamour for the man-with-the-means obama who continually fuels the callous cause of war which adds the lethal live-ingredient of brutal love-blunt tragedy to disgustingly decrepid disaster.

in short, they don't want to know - unless there's something in it for them. they claim to love africa, but really, they just hate white people.

for a few dollars' screw, they kill 99% of all known hostile ideologies dead; for the good of democracy, the bog of obama vanities must be kept spotless, and any insurgent intellect which taints it, will be wiped-out - good or bad, afro-centric or euro-critical, without discrimination...and the cleaning agents will be rewarded with the prize of purification in the golden-shower of presidential piss.

fundamentally, the problem is not islamists refusing to allow aid organizations access, but western governmental intelligence agencies' perpetual propensity for exploiting a dire situation to infiltrate a 'target' area and further prosecute their immoral ideological war. compare this current scenario to the cia's covert operation in pakistan, where an inherently bogus vaccination programme was used as unethical cover for collecting information on the whereaboouts of osama bin laden.

europe will never be totally subjected, just as africa was never entirely enslaved - the reason being that the extremists who seek to dominate and destroy the lives of other human beings have an ideology contaminated with a strain of avarice which is not common to the ordinary people of any continent.

you may have noticed that, however many africans are expediently slaughtered by the aggressive, adventurist, and exploitative policies of president obama, african leaders will never criticize him openly - this is because their primary political 'philosophy' has its roots firmly planted in the acid soil of racism, like those of the african-american president himself, and, as a consequence, the continent of raw-rhythmical material is once more ruled by the type of tin-pan-africanism which originally established the sour economic system of the slave-trade-triangle, in which those advocating an abnormal distillation of a perversely mutated euro-centric ideology pull all the commercial and racialized levers of power, ultimately, to set up a false-flag in africa for which many will fall. trust me, it's a tried and tested traditional trap, using low-born londoners as live-bait.

and so, here again, we have ideologically corrupt liberals receiving good wages for not solving the problems which they are paid to solve, and, in the process, making money from the destitute - therefore, in some sort of psychotic-sympathy with national humanist front, i say: "what use are these parastic liberals, anyway".

nhs? don't talk to me about the nhs - the father of someone i know quite well has suffered appalling treatment under the nhs. where do i begin?

first off, he had a major stroke-haemorrhage from which it subsequently took him months to recuperate limited mobility, yet when he arrived at the accident and emergency department, by ambulance, the doctor-in-charge diagnosed him as dehydrated and tried to send him home again, despite the fact that he could not even manage to sit on a chair - fortunately, a junior (black) doctor stressed the seriousness of the patient's condition and admission was eventually authorized.

then, over the following two years, despite being admitted for a second stroke and suffering increasing incontinence problems, he was never given a prostate-specific antigen test (which should have been standard for a man of his age), and was never offered any assistance from the incontinence unit - indeed his wife had to practically beg for incontinence pads, after being told that such items were "expensive", and even after finally being supplied with the pads, they were of inferior quality and not effective.

this year he was admitted again, due to fits, but spent about three weeks vegetating in the various hospital wards without being properly diagnosed, even though he showed no real decline in his condition save for a deterioration in mobility caused by inactivity in the hospital - eventually the senior occupational therapist returned from holiday and the patient was transferred to a third ward for some rehabilitative physiotherapy and assessment, and then, after some weeks, finally sent home, still undiagnosed, but only when the social workers had been badgered into providing the necessary care-assistance.

(continued)

withybrush wanderings (continuation) said...

recently, after first being given a prostate-specific antigen test (which indicated high levels) and prescribed antibiotics because of minor urinary bleeding, he was admitted to the accident and emergency department because of a bout of more serious bleeding and a serious decline in health, and, although the staff initially relieved the condition with a small catheter, there was a delay in arranging transport to the urology unit (which was located in another hospital about 50 miles from the patient's home), and so the staff attempted unsucessfully to insert a larger catheter, in order to progress urology treatment in the accident and emergency department - unfortunately, he was administered morphine (which, it turns out, is highly dangerous for patients with prostate problems) and suffered a serious adverse reaction and had to be transferred to the urology unit (35 miles down the road) by paramedics. the patient, who spent a few days totally freaked out by the morphine episode, remained at the second hospital for a week or so, whilst he was given appropriate treatment until the bleeding ceased, but although he received an ultrasound sonic-scan there, the essential cystocopy could not be performed, as the water-quality at the hospital was not sufficient to sterilize instruments. he was deemed fit for discharge, and was to undergo the cystocopy and a bone-scan, as an outpatient, at the first local hospital. however, he required more support at home, and, as the nhs bureaucracy could not arrange this from the second hospital (being was out of his home county), he was expediently transferred back into his county to a rehab holding-unit, which was still about 25 miles from his home (as opposed to the local hospital, which lay twelve miles from home). incidentally, it was apparent at the second hospital that staffing was very low, especially at weekends, and information on the patient had to be sought rather than being offered.

(continued)

withybrush wanderings (continuation) said...

now, at the third holding-hospital unit, the patient was diagnosed with some fluctuating heart rhythms, and there was some more minor bleeding (which quickly abated) due to the a new catheter being fitted on the day of transfer from the second hospital, however, no attempt was made to arrange for the patient to be returned home with the appropriate level of domestic care, even though he was becoming very depressed and only seeing his wife once-a-day, because of the travel difficulties. the staff at this third hospital had seemingly decided to keep him there until he had undergone the outpatient-investigations which had been booked for him at the first hospital, and they also decided that his mobility had to be assessed and that he should receive physiotherapy enabling him to walk again before home-care and discharge would be arranged - despite the fact that he had practically lost nearly all mobility some months prior to admission, and that the local care-team had, just before his admission, been in the process of arranging the installation of a hospital-bed, a hoist, and a higher-level of care. however, you see, the rules stipulate that, after two weeks in hospital, the patient loses all his care package and it has to be re-assessed and re-arranged - and, sadly, in contrast to the home-care team, the hospital staff appeared much more reluctant to arrange the required equipment and extra-care, citing problems of "expensive" equipment and difficulties sourcing care-workers in the specific locality of the patients home ('problems' which were not referred to at all by the local care-team). indeed, the hospital staff were most concerned (on grounds of safety) that the patient should not be discharged until an adequate level of home care could be provided, yet the patient was meantime allowed to fall out of bed (after which event a 'health and safety' assessment had to be carried out in order to decide whether a second cot-bar could be fitted to the bed), and also almost permitted to slip out of his chair from exhaustion caused by the fact that the chair-angle was inappropriately set and most uncomfortable - and it was, on both occasions of mishap, another patient who had to alert the nurses to the emergency. moreover, on being transferred from one part of the ward to another, the chair-cushion was not even inflated by the nurses and the patient was left in discomfort all day.

(continued)

withybrush wanderings (continuation) said...

to-date, the patient is still trapped in the third hospital...the cystoscopy was perfomed at the first hospital (with the patient being treated as an out-patient and then returned to the third hospital), but unfortunately the results have not been communicated to the patient or family, although they noted that the patient was put on a three-day course of extremely strong antibiotics (used to eliminate certain resistant bladder-infections), after which he perked up somewhat...the bone-scan and computerised-tomography scan were arranged similarly, but the ambulance forgot to pick the patient up from the third hospital to take him to the second hospital and both scans had to be rescheduled for another week...meanwhile the nurses asked the patient (who is not fit to take any decisions) whether he wanted to receive more physiotherapy, but failed to explain to him that this would mean remaining at the hospital for an indefinite extended period and not being able to return home, as he dearly wished - the patient then chose, or was 'encouraged' to chose, the option of further physiotherapy without members of the family being present, and was subsequently shocked to realize that he would have to stay in the (third) hospital for this, and would not be returning home to receive the physiotherapy as an outpatient at the first local hospital...and his decision was then was used as a further excuse to postpone making any arrangements for his discharge into home-care. the nursing staff are very authoritarian and are reluctant to take the family's wishes into consideration - they also seem to be deliberately withholding the offer of home-care in order to force the family of a dying man into a desperate position whereby they will have to arrange for private care in order to be near to him. the patient's general practioner has communicated his concerns to the family that the patient may be suffering from an undiagnosed cancer, but the hospital are continuing to treat the patient for an enlarged prostate and consequential bladder infection, and are not giving any details about the diagnosis until such time as the scans are finally completed and the urologist makes an appointment to advise the patient of his condition.

basically, if the family complain, the local socialist mafia seem to ensure that the patient is treated worse and worse with 'things' going inexplicably wrong at every turn.

so what we have is a conservative government committing itself to a publicly-financed health-sevice, but simutaneously cutting down funding and happily sitting back to let the socialists mismanage the system until it collapses - left and right collaborating in perfect disharmony of corruption. david cameron is obviously too cowardly to admit to the electorate that he intends to privatize the health-system by default, allowing his commercial friends to buy up the infrastructure on the cheap, and then sell medical services back to individual citizens at a huge profit - even though many of the older patients will have already spent their whole lives working to pay for their public health-care...and, by the way some of them are acting, i wouldn't be surprised if many of the nhs staff are in on the scam too.

you know, i'd really like to mention some of the excellent physio work that the patient received at the first hospital, but frankly i'm too damn appalled by the whole sick and sorry story.

withybrush wanderings said...

02:39

the home-care team were pretty good (and sympathetic) too - they had already begun re-assessing the patient's needs and were set to raise the level of care by bringing in extra home-assistants, a hoist and a hospital-type bed, but the staff at the (third) hospital seem to have a quite different view of the capabilities and proper functions of the health service, and clearly believe that the patient should wait stranded away from his family in a non-local hospital, either until some other poor sod dies and frees up care-capacity, or until he himself dies, or until the family crack and source private care as the only means of getting their abducted father released back home. apparently, the way some of these hospital staff behave, you'd think they were on a percentage of health-service savings - and, you know what, that wouldn't surprise me in the least.

that's a bit of a high-handed attitude about a comment on a blog which you don't run - i suggest you mind your own business. the comment is either allowed to stand or it is disallowed. anyway, what exactly are you contributing to this suspended blog?

by the way, your proposal is pointless - the nhs is defunct. trying to motivate folks to help me 'do something about these sorts of things' was not the point of the comment, i am not a politician or a pressure-groupie - the point was to expose this particular situation to the light for the benefit of an elder citizen who did believe in and contribute to the nhs and frankly deserves better, despite his mistaken loyalty to the public services to which he committed his best years and efforts. if you please, think of the comment as a dry-run for a letter to the member of parliament or government minister responsible for this anrachic administrative antagony.

i think that the manner in which you bloggers pretend to be different people, fastidiously setting-up a back-story for each character is interminably anal. why don't you go start a blog and try to motivate someone to do some sort of thing about something? personally, i haven't got the time or inclination.
